During police pursuit, passenger on motorcycle dies in crash

SEAFORD – Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation of a fatal crash Monday when a motorcycle initially pursued by a Seaford police officer crashed into a pick-up truck on U.S. 13A south of Blades.

A passenger on the motorcycle, Nicole D. Santee, 27, of Bridgeville, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she died from injuries sustained in the crash that occurred about 5:03 p.m., according to Seaford Police Department spokesman Capt. Gary Flood.

The operator of the motorcycle, Curtis W. Fletcher, 22, of Laurel, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and subsequently flown to Christiana Hospital.

The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

According to Capt. Flood, a Seaford officer on patrol in the Middleford Road area of Seaford observed a motorcycle where the passenger was not wearing a helmet and there was no helmet attached to the motorcycle for passenger’s use.

The officer followed the motorcycle onto westbound Concord Road where he attempted to stop the motorcycle and activated his emergency equipment. The motorcycle then accelerated to a high rate of speed and turned southbound at the intersection of U.S. 13A in Blades, DE. As the officer approached US 13A he lost sight of the motorcycle. The officer continued southbound on U.S. 13A and approximately a half-mile south of Blades the officer came upon a crash where the motorcycle had collided with the rear of a pick-up truck.
