What: Sussex County Master Gardener Open House – annual event
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What: Sussex County Master Gardeners invite you to their Open held at the Sussex County Extension office in Georgetown. Admission is FREE*. The Sussex County Extension office is located at 16483 County Seat Highway, Route 9, west of Georgetown.. Look for the blue and gold tent in the Sussex County Demonstration Garden immediately behind the office building. Please call 856-2585 x 544 for detailed directions to the Sussex County Extension Office. Bring your children, grandchildren, family and friends! Highlights include:
Regular showings of the award-winning production of “The Adventures of Peter Rabbit in Farmer McGregor’s Garden” which delight children
Expert advice at the Plant Clinic for vegetable and flower garden
Demonstration Garden labeled with native and non-native plants that are idea for Delaware’s climate and growing conditions
Garden Smart Garden Easy demonstrations on accessible gardening techniques and resources including tool demos and raised beds, etc.

New and established residents of Sussex County are welcomed to talk with and the Cooperative Extension experts and volunteer Master Gardeners that provide advice, resources and inspiration for growing flower and vegetables and the discovery of nature in Sussex County, Delaware. In 2011, Master Gardeners donated 5,971hours of service to their community.

Kent & Sussex Master Gardeners
This year Sussex County MG reported over 5,971.50 volunteer hours (that is an average of 95 hours per MG (63 active) or 170 work weeks or 853 average work days and saving the universities over $112,085.05 (Based on a professional rate of $18.77/hr)
Kent County MG reported over 3,989.25 volunteer hours (average 102 volunteer hours per MG (39 active) or 114 work weeks or 570 average work days) and saving the universities $74,878.22 (Based on a professional $18.77/hr)
Combined Kent and Sussex MG’s have saved Delaware Cooperative Extension (DSU and UD) a grand total of $186,963.27
