Oh, I think Delaware elected legislators have stepped in it now.
Do any of them consider the voters when they do things like this? Have they thought at all about why Sheriff Christopher won the election? We knew his agenda, we voted for it. Do they really feel that they have the right to take away our voice and negate our votes? Really?
Stripping the Sheriff’s Office of just about any power at all and decimating the office through attrition and termination of deputies is a violation of our State constitution. Is our General Assembly drunk with imagined power? Do they really think that the voters of Delaware are going to just sit idly by and let them continue in this vein?
New Castle might let them get away with this but I don’t really think Kent and Sussex are going to stand for it. Each and every one of them will be facing re-election at some point. Take a look around the world, bigger governments than this are going down in flames for the same patterns of behavior. If they keep playing with fire, they are going to get burned in a big way.
Do they really want to go against the people who put them in office or do they want to represent our voice? Our “elected representatives” need to think about it. I guarantee them that we, the taxpaying/voters of Kent and Sussex are.
Consider this, the Sheriff’s Office has been the very basis for law enforcement in this country since before there was a “state police”, “city police” and in 48 states, they are the foundation of law enforcement. Maybe our Delaware legislature needs to reconsider their position because it is going to come back to bite them.
