Holly Malone campaign support letter
April 17 is an important day for voters in the 1st District of the City ofDover. They have a great opportunity to elect one who:
1. Is an Optimist,
2. Who has prior City Council experience,
3. Looks ahead to make the City ofDovera highly desirable place to live and raise families,
4. Believes that city services must be maintained, enhanced and cost-effective,
5. Supports our top-notch police service,
6. Is a consensus-builder and is highly respected in theDovercommunity, and
7. Is a leader that has the capability to pursue pragmatic solutions to the city’s economic and growth problems.
That person is clearly Holly Malone, and she will bring much enthusiasm to solve the many issues.
The city’s current budget problems developed over several years, and the national economic downturn has made it worse. There was over-reliance on real-estate-transfer taxes, building permits and other fluctuating revenue sources to support city services. The five-term incumbent and former City Council president has shown no leadership in tackling these problems other than pushing across-the-board budget cuts and a hiring freeze. As a result, the organizational performance of the city staff is being reduced, and the situation will become worse if changes are not made.
The extraordinary and precious right to elect our own leaders is cherished by free people everywhere. When many others are denied such rights, we send our young people to other parts of the world to help them gain the right to self-govern. I hope more people show up to vote in theDovercity election.
Voters in the 1st District have this extraordinary opportunity to exercise their rights on April 17.
What we need is a real problem-solver and not just a “Nay”-sayer. That is why we need to elect Holly Malone to improve city governance.
