Obamacare

Just one problem with Dr Fields' letter - all the efforts mentioned were by private organizations.  None mention participation by even the state government, let alone the Feds.  Experience indicates that when any government gets involved in any issue, two things happen.  The government wants more control, and the program becomes another example of incompetence in action.  These problems grow exponentially with the level of government involvement.

Just throw anything out there to scare people

This lie the GOP is spreading about how the passing of Obamacare will cause small businesses to go out of business is such bull, and I’m tired of hearing it.

The facts are that the passing of this bill will require all small businesses with 50 or more employees to now provide health care for their employees. It is also a fact that 94 percent of ALL SMALL businesses have FEWER than 50 employees, and 96 percent of small business that have more than 50 employees ALREADY provide health-care insurance.

But I think the most important thing this bill did was something the GOP does not care about: 33 million people who live in the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world now have health care, and families will no longer be destroyed by medical bills.

So, please don’t print that bull hockey anymore; it just isn’t true.

Obamacare

I have a question for Ms. Collins about pre-existing conditions. Suppose a person has diabetes and they change jobs and need to change their insurance company and the insurance company finds out from the old insurance company that the patient did not follow the instructions for medication and etc from a doctor. Should the new insurance company be required to cover that patient?

Thank elected officials for Affordable Care Act

Thank you to our elected officials who support the Affordable Care Act and health reform. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the Affordable Care Act, which will bring health security and peace of mind to the citizens of Delaware and the country. I thank Senator Tom Carper, Congressman John Carney, Senator Chris Coons. Locally, I thank State Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart, Health Care Commission Chairwoman Bettina Riveros and Health and Social Services Director Rita Landgraf.

I especially thank President Barack Obama, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Senator Harry Reid and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. I believe Nancy Pelosi and Kathleen Sebelius are “Iron Women” in Washington leadership, and I admire them both.

I look forward to their continued support as we get ready for the Affordable Care Act to begin on Jan. 1, 2014.

Standing up

A hearty thanks to Dr. Jo Ann Fields, M.D., of Felton, for her “Thank elected officials for Affordable Care Act” letter on 6 July 2012. The doctor, to my thinking, understands: if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything! I can only imagine what fortitude it takes for Dr. Fields to publicly take this stand. Personally, I am well pleased with the health care that my wife and I enjoy. Being aware there are so many millions of Americans who do not have health care insurance in the United States of America, this is a “disgrace”! The Republican Party, especially, their [presumptive] candidate, Mitt Romney ... a decent and intelligent man, but, totally a “vacuous” political candidate with no intestinal fortitude! He plays to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, the TEA Party and other low-information, uneducated voters. Stay the course, Dr. Fields. God bless you and may God bless the United States of America!
