Clayton man charged with continuous rape of minor

CLAYTON – A 32-year-old Clayton man was arrested on five first-degree rape charges Thursday after Delaware State Police investigated a complaint of ongoing sexual abuse of a female minor for nearly six years, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Jason M. Griffitts, of the 100 block of Seeneytown Road, was an additional 24 felony charges related to the alleged rapes, which court papers listed as occurring between Oct. 22, 2006 and April 30, 2012 at three Clayton and Felton locations.

Second-degree rape charges without consent were levied for 18 incidences after the alleged victim turned 12, the arrest warrant said. A continuous sexual abuse of a child count came from a defendant who resident in the home with the child and had recurring access to the victim, court papers said.

Mr. Griffitts was arraigned Thursday via video phone at JP Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach and held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna on a $1,700,000 secured bail.
